Community Led-Monitoring (CLM) Project
Project Title: Improving Quality of HIV Service Delivery and Client outcome by Engaging Communities in Identifying Data Driven Solutions in Awi Zone Selected Woredas in 5 HF's.
HIV/AIDS situation in Ethiopia still remains being developmental challenge that needs strengthened and all rounded multi-sectoral response Despite the increased access to ART in Ethiopia as well as Amhara, PLHIVs still encounter barriers to optimal care at various stages of continuum of care from HIV diagnosis though ART enrolment and long-term retention. Most importantly, significant numbers of people tend to retreat to their personal options for spiritual treatment either immediately after undertaking HIV testing and knowing their positive status and/ or even after initiating ART. The reality is the same in Amhara region and the proposed project woredas. Religious leaders do not have strong linkage with health service providers, associations of PLHIV and other partners. These core stakeholders have exercised limited portion of their role in ensuring a more participatory and integrated monitoring system in attaining the three 95’s. All this calls for integrated efforts to establish a sustainable community-led monitoring system consisting of religious leaders and institutions, PLHIV community (through the associations), Idirs, 3C’s, DICs, health facilities and the health system as a whole.
Integrating and adopting CLM intervention support is required in localities where churches and mosques providing spiritual healing services for large number of congregations are located. As such, the churches and mosque in Awi zones identified to be serving large number of congregations including patients from neighboring districts are listed for consideration.
Project Goal:-To engage the community in monitoring quality HIV service provision to clients
Objectives:
- To Adopt a community-led monitoring system in community settings to ensure accessibility of quality HIV services to clients
- To develop capacity of community Actors in implementing CLM core activities
- To create demand for quality HIV services to 11,000 clients by reducing barrier
- Geographic area and sites covered by the project
The project is being implemented in Awi zone Injibara, Chagnie and Dangila of Amhara Region. Currently we have already selected 3 public health facilities and 2 community DICs for data collection sites. In addition, 3 PLHIV associations have been targeted which will be engaged in selecting community volunteers and creating demand for services in the course of the project
